Science Club students gave a presentation to throw light on scientific reasons behind Indian rituals and beliefs. Generally Hindus practice certain rituals without knowing their utility and significance. Science student explained the reasons and justifications lying behind such practices which will dispel myths and misgivings. When a fact is backed by scientific explanation, its utility and significance grows multifold and we all get benefited.
1. Chanting the Mantra ‘Om’:- Chanting the mantra ‘Om’ leads to significant reduction in heart rate which leads to a deep form of relaxation with increased alertness. 2. Chanting ‘Gayatri Mantra’:- Hindus Gayatri Mantra produces 110,000 sound waves/sec. Through the combination of sound or sound waves of a particular frequency, this Mantra is claimed to be capable of developing scientific potentialities. The Gayatri Mantra is broadcasted daily for 15 min. from 7pm onwards over Radio Paramaribo, Surinam, South America for the past 2 years. 3. Holy Basil:- Holy Basil is the most sacred plant in Hindu religion. It represents purity, serenity, harmony, luck and good health. Ayurvedic literature says that holy basil is an effective treatment for snake bites. It is also used to treat coughs, bronchitis and diabetes. Modern scientific research offers impressive evidence that Julsi reduces stress, enhances stamina, relieves inflammation, lowers cholesterol, prevents gastric ulcers and provides a rich supply of antioxidants. 4. Offering Water to Sun God: It reflects and releases rainbow effect which is useful to eyes and to the body as well, when done early morning when the run’s colour is orange along with the Jaap of the Mantra ‘Om Suryaya Namah’. 5. Scientific meaning of Hanuman Chalisa:- In Hanuman Chalisa, it is said Yug Sahastra Yojan per Bhanu! Leelyo taahi madhur phal janu! 1 Yug = 12000 Yrs. 1 Sahastra = 1000 1 Yojan = 8 Miles Yug × Sahastra × Yojan= 12000×1000×8miles=96,000,000 miles 1 mile = 1.6Kms. 96,000,000 miles = 96,000,000×1.6Kms. =1,536,000,000 Kms. To Sun NASA has said that, it is the exact distance between Earth and Sun which proves Hanuman Ji did jump to Sun, thinking it as a sweet fruit (Madhu Phal) 6. Shankhnaad:- Conch (Shankh) possesses scientific significance with great power of controlling the ecological balances in the environment. The Shankh Dhwani creates the sound waves by which many harmful germs, insects are destroyed. The mosquito breeding is also affected by Shankh blowing and decreases the spread of malaria. Students realised the importance of performing various rituals and felt guided, enlightened and motivated to practice all these rituals with more determination, desire and inclination.
